Installing Net•Yield

The Computer Environment

Net•Yield, a client server application, may be installed in a number of configurations:

The computer software comprising the Net•Yield installation is grouped into two categories:

These groups may be installed on the same computer, or on different computers on the network. For example, while your Net•Yield program software is installed on a local computer, your data might be stored on a data server, or another shared computer.

Net•Yield is supported under the following operating systems:

Servers: (data file storage)

Windows 2008 Server

Windows 2012 Server

Computer Workstations: (where the Net•Yield program is installed)

Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1

Supporting Software Requirements:

Net•Yield capitalizes on the powerful programming languages that are contained in recent versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Therefore, before you attempt to install Net•Yield, you must first make certain that your computer (and/or server) is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates, including Internet Explorer, since this program installs other required operating system files. The requirements are shown below.

Internet Explorer 9.0 or greater: All computers running Net•Yield must be upgraded to run the current Microsoft's Internet Explorer along with the latest service packs. This program provides much of the XML translation software used by Net•Yield.

Microsoft's .Net Framework: Make sure that the Microsoft's ".Net Framework" version 3.5 or higher and all related service packs are installed on all computers using Net•Yield. This is required to run Net•Yield's advanced printing, browsing, and communication routines. The latest version the .Net Framework is available from Microsoft's update center.

See the Net•Yield website for the most current system requirements.

Before installing your Net•Yield software, make sure that your network is properly configured and that you can print to all printers from other Windows programs.

Other computers on the network should be set up with only the Net•Yield client software.

1. From the administrator's workstation, launch the Net•Yield installation program (NY_XXXXX_Install_Setup.exe) that was downloaded. You will be able to install Net•Yield, create and use the demo company and your company database files for a 45 day trial period without a registration key. After this period of time you will be asked to register your system. To unlock your system after the 45 day trial, you must first purchase an unlocking key and register the system.

2. From the Net•Yield Installation Shield Wizard, click the "Next" button to advance to the Welcome Message. Click the "Next" Button to go to the "License Agreement " window, and accept the license agreement by selecting the "I accept the terms in the license agreement" button. .

3. By default, the Net•Yield client application will be installed in the destination folder named NetYield in the C:\Program Files( x86)Folder of your local drive. Click on "Next."

4. By default, the Net•Yield database folder will be installed in the C:\Program Files( x86)\NetYield\Data on your local drive. If you chose to install the data files elsewhere (perhaps on a server), you can Browse to another mapped directory on your network from this window by selecting "Change". When the location of the data files is selected, click on "Next."

5. On the administrator's computer you must select the “Full Install" option to install both the Net•Yield application and database files. Click on "Next."

6. The “Installing Net Yield" wizard will copy the required files and complete the installation process. This should take about one minute, depending on the speed of your computer. When done, the "Installation Completed" screen will appear. Click "Next" to finish the installation and continue.

Adding workstations (additional "clients")

See also: Installing Net•Yield – full administrator install

Note: Make sure you have upgraded all computers to the proper software "environment" before installing Net•Yield.

You may install Net•Yield on one or more computers (workstations) on your network. System administrators should note that a "Full Installation" of the Net•Yield software should only be performed on the "administrator's workstation" and the server. All other computers on the network should receive "Net•Yield client" installations only. The main difference between the two versions is the installation of database files (multiple database locations should not occur).

To install the client version on additional workstations:

1. From the client workstation, launch the Net•Yield installation program that was downloaded.

2. From the Setup Installation wizard, click the "Next" buttons to advance to the welcome message, and then the "License" window, and accept the license agreement.

3. By default, the Net•Yield application will be installed in a folder named "Net Yield" in the C:\Program Files( x86)\ folder of your local drive. Click on "Next."

4. Do not change the location of database folder on a client only installation, as the databases are only installed in a full installation. Click "Next".

5. On a "client" computer you must select the "Net Yield Client" setup method. Click on "Next".

6. The “Installing Net Yield" wizard will copy the required files and complete the installation process. This should take less than a minute, depending on the speed of your computer. When done, the "Installation Completed" screen will appear. Click "Next" to finish the installation and continue.

Once completed, you may begin to use Net•Yield. The program may be accessed in two ways:

Creating a Desktop Shortcut

In addition to launching Net•Yield from the C:\Program Files(x86)\NetYield\Startme.exe Net•Yield menu option, you can also create a shortcut icon to launch a Net•Yield company directly from your desktop.

If the data is stored on another computer, your path should include the mapped drive in the path, such as "N:\Data\MyCompany", where drive N is a mapped drive leading to the Net•Yield DATA files directory.

Installing Updates

Net•Yield Software Updates:

Updates to Net•Yield software are provided to users who participate in our paid 24 x 7 Premium Support Plan. Users who are not members of this plan are not entitled to receive updates. There are three steps to updating Net•Yield software.

1. Obtain and install the update release software

Net•Yield uses a system of periodic updates to provide users on paid support with the most current features and improvements to the system. Users on paid support may log into the Net•Yield Customer Portal with the primary email address and download a copy of the latest release The download should be done on the Net•Yield server and placed in the C:\Program Files(x86)\NetYield folder.

2. Install the update from within the Net•Yield program:

If successfully updated, the version number on the main menu should now reflect the number in the name of the Update file.

3. Distributing the updates over a network

As each user logs into Net•Yield, any new versions of the software or the Net•Yield utility programs will be automatically downloaded to their workstation from the shared data folder. The user will be notified as each file is downloaded. Users do not have to do anything except wait for the downloads to finish before entering Net•Yield.

Note: Net•Yield will automatically "distribute" several different types of its files: release updates (.exe), help files (.chm), and Net Print files (.nyp), among others.

Opening a Demo Company

From the administrator's computer:

Upon installation of the Net•Yield software, a Demo Company shortcut icon is automatically placed on the administrator's desktop. Launch Net•Yield from this shortcut icon and continue below at "Opening a Demo Company".

From a client workstation: If you are setting up a new workstation, the client setup installation does not automatically place a demo company icon on your desktop. An icon must be created manually on the workstation to start a demo company. To do so, follow the instructions about setting up a Demo Company shortcut icon found in "Creating a Desktop Shortcut".

Opening a Demo Company

1. Double-click on the Net•Yield Demo Company shortcut icon on your desktop. This opens the Net•Yield '"Splash Screen."

Expandable Window Sizes

The "Splash Screen" has three buttons at the bottom: (-), Start Net Yield, and +)

Select the center, Start Net Yield, button to start Net•Yield.

2. If the current release version of the software does not match the demo company release version, the user will be prompted through the update process. See Install New Release for more information.

3. The Net•Yield main menu for the demo company will open. Note that the menus can be used by clicking with the mouse, by using arrow keys, or by typing the numbers associated with the desired function. Sub-menus "cascade" open as needed.

Congratulations! You may now explore Net•Yield for yourself. The demo company you just created will be accessed every time you double-click the Net•Yield shortcut icon that you placed on your desktop, until you modify it to point to another company.

Opening a New Company

Starting a new company is fast and easy. We suggest that you use demo companies to create the business model template needed to create the databases for your company folder. The business models created can be based on the demo company setup and tables or a set of pre-configured setup options and empty data tables. A customized business model template for your company can be created as part of the setup and installation process by a Net•Yield installation implementation specialist. See Business Models for information on how to create the business models.

To open a new company:

1. Create an empty folder on the Net•Yield system administrator’s workstation in the C:\Program Files\NetYield(x86) \data folder for your company or in the shared NetYield\Data folder on the server.

2. Create a new Net•Yield desktop icon or edit the existing Net•Yield icon that points the target to the new folder. Or, double click on the existing Net•Yield icon and use the "Make Folder" button to create a new folder. The new company folder will be created in the Program Files\NetYield\Data path. However, once the new folder is created it may be moved to any mapped drive on your network. Be sure to properly link any desktop shortcuts to that company's system. When the files are finished copying, the system will return to the System menu.

Select the new folder in C:\Program Files\Data folder. See "Creating a Desktop Shortcut" for more information.

3. Double click on the desktop icon. If the business model templates created above are found, a message box will appear: “New Company – Do you want to create a new company in (folder name)? Yes/No.”

Select yes. Selecting yes opens the Net•Yield "splash screen."

Expandable Window Sizes

The "splash screen" has three buttons at the bottom: (-), Start Net Yield, and +)

Select the center. Start Net Yield button to start Net•Yield.

Note: If XML files have not been created using the Empty Set, Tables Only, or All Data option, and an empty folder is selected, the following message will display: "Net Yield initialization files were not found. You create these files in System - - Create Business Models - Your empty templates must be located in: NetYield\Business Models." Select OK to continue. XML files must be created before a new company can be created.

Note: If you receive a message warning you that your operating system software does not support XML, the software setup will end and you will have to upgrade your Internet Explorer software to version 7.0 or higher or the .net Framework to 3.5 or higher or change to another computer on the network that meets the installation requirements, and then re-launch the Net•Yield application. (See notes in The Computer Environment.)

You should now see the Net•Yield main menu. Note that the menus can be used by both clicking with the mouse, using the up and down scroll arrows, or by typing the numbers associated with the desired function. Sub-menus "cascade" open as needed. The default demo date is 01/02/2010.

Congratulations! Your new company is ready to be initialized with the system setup options and supporting tables, transactions and additional configurations. We suggest that you now follow the instructions in the Getting Started with Net•Yield section.

If you would like to create a desktop shortcut icon to access this new company directly, see "Creating a Desktop Shortcut."

System Registration

Net•Yield can be used for demo purposes for a period of 45 days. After this period of time, a reminder screen will appear urging you to register the system.

Full use of the system beyond the implementation period requires the licensee to obtain an unlocking code for the number of users purchased. Adding users to an existing system or changing any of the registration information (address, phone, etc.) will require a new code to be obtained.

To register Net•Yield, obtain a valid system registration and unlocking key from the Net•Yield sales department. Login into Net•Yield using a user name and password for a user that has system maintenance security rights and privileges. Go to the System menu and then License Registration. Enter the following data, exactly as it appears in the unlocking information supplied by sales department. See License Registration for more information.

If you are attempting to change your system registration, first make a record of the current registration information. Then, click on the Change command option. Type in the registration information EXACTLY as it appears on the registration confirmation form that was sent to you. Make sure to include all punctuation, spaces, etc. The unlocking key will only work if the registration screen in Net•Yield EXACTLY matches the registration form that was sent to you.

Once you have entered any new information, click on the Update command option, and the system should tell you that you have successfully unlocked Net•Yield. If not, double check the accuracy of your entries. If you still have a problem, contact Net•Yield Support at 800-808-3905.
